Memorial Weekend Festivities
Well, we decided to throw caution to the wind, say “screw the weatherman,” and the preceeded to load up the truck and boat Saturday morning and head to the river for a weekend of camping, fishing, boating, and eating with friends. As luck would have it, it was actually great weather at the river – no wind, no rain until we packed up on Monday, and we even caught a little bit of sun (the new freckles all over my face are proof of it).
The fishing was great – it’s just too bad the catching was so NOT great. Nolan is now obsessed with fishing, although we discovered that he has absolutely NO desire to be near a fish. His fear of fish did not stop him from wanting to be on the boat and have his fishing pole (fish pole according to Nolan) in hand at all times. It didn’t matter who was on a boat or near the water, if there was someone there, Nolan was glued to their side.
Cooper wasn’t left out of the fun altogether. We tried the lifejacket so that he could go on the boat, but it was just a bit too uncomfortable for him – this jacket just wasn’t meant for kids with no necks (Nolan had the same problem with it when he was Cooper’s age too).
Cooper had fun hiking around in the backpack, attempting to cruise around in the walker (downhill was a piece of cake – uphill, not so much), and crawling in the dirt. And he LOVED wearing Daddy’s hat.
Of course, some of us snuck in the occasional nap…..
And to keep Nolan on task with the potty training, he was assigned a special “Pee Rock.” So everytime he had to go pee, he’d yell “pee rock,” and run to, well, pee on the rock. This was a much better alternative than having him drop his pants and leave a puddle in the middle of camp.
So happy for a fun, relaxing weekend with family and friends!
