Impromptu week night fun

May 29, 2009

Yesterday, I got a call seeing if I was available for a last minute girl’s cards night that evening.  Well, I couldn’t exactly pass that up, especially since one of the gals (a good friend) is moving to the west side of the state in a couple weeks.  It was my turn to host, which was great because then I didn’t have to figure out how to get Nolan back home for the evening since I was already working in town earlier that day.

The husband of one of the gals had an event that he had to attend, which meant that he wouldn’t be able to watch their 16 month old son for the evening.  No problem, Brandon stepped up and said to bring the little boy out and he’d watch both him and Nolan, letting us girls have our night.  Yay for great husbands who are also amazing dads!

The boys played great all night, taking turns playing together and then just playing near each other.  No cranky-pants, no fights, lots of giggles.  Brandon took them outside for a while and had them taking turns on the 4-wheeler.  Nolan stayed up, playing hard, until everyone left around 9:30, which is about 1 1/2 hours past his normal bed time.  The boy was pooped, but had a blast – there was no crankiness from that one.  He slept in until 7:00 this morning (he’s usually up around 6:00, same as us) and was one happy boy.

I may have to bake some of Brandon’s favorite cookies for him being such a champ.  I love that he didn’t even bat an eye about taking on another toddler for the night, and even more, he really enjoyed it!

Meanwhile, us girls stuffed our faces with yummy food, caught up on the whats-going-ons of each other, and played some competitive games of “nerts” or “squeek” or whatever you might call it.  Of course, we paused to chuckle at the boys playing their funny games.

Of course, I completely forgot to take any photos of us girls.  Brandon took several videos of the boys, but I’m still having issues uploading the darn things.  Still hoping one of you have the secret trick you’re willing to share.

We’re all getting together for a farewell BBQ in another few weeks, so hopefully I’ll get some photos of the group then.  The downside of last night’s fun…  this morning I had a heck of a time realizing that it wasn’t Friday.  Yay for tomorrow and my evening of chic flicks!

Good job and way to get it wired tight. It’s way easier when ya got a couple to keep themselves occupied than one needy one. Mo’ fun fo’ all and ya just gotta keep one eye focused to keep ’em outta bad trouble. See ya’ll soon.
    Love, Dad
