This weekend wasn’t as nice as the previous week had been – colder temps, which would have been pretty tolerable if it weren’t for the darn wind. I tried doing summery things, hoping that my wishful thinking would will away the windchill and bring back the warmth.
On Saturday, the three of us hit up the annual Haines City-Wide Yard Sale. It’s a pretty cute affair – people all over the “city” and the outskirts sign up to hold a yard sale for that day and then yard-salers go to the park at 7am to get a map of all the sales. They charge a $1 for the map and then make sure that you don’t walk away from the table before getting a doughnut and cup of coffee or hot chocolate.
There were over 30 sales. Not many really sparked our interest, but we found a few things worth while. The weather was better than we expected, the wind hadn’t started just yet. By about 11, we were yard saled out.
Brandon and Nolan headed out to do some backhoe work to get water out to the barn from the shop. One of the yard sale finds was a bigger carseat to keep in the backhoe for Nolan – he can sit up much higher in this one and get a better view of what’s going on. The monkey even managed to fall asleep while they were working. Thank goodness the boy inherited my sleeping ability.
Some friends stopped by to work on some projects as well, and I decided that despite the wind that was starting to pick up, I was going to make a summery lunch. I grilled up some burgers, made some macaroni salad, and served up some sun tea and lemonade. If it weren’t for that darn wind blowing things around outside, and the fact that we were thus eating lunch inside, it would have felt like a perfect summer Saturday.
Here’s to hoping there’s more sun and less wind around the corner.
