Super Bowl

January 30, 2009

Usually, Super Bowl Sunday is a rather celebrated event for us.  We meet up with a group of friends at someone’s house, eat a TON of food, and are generally excited about the get-together.  This year, I’ve barely acknowledged that the Super Bowl is this Sunday – and I’m realizing I’m not the only one.

As of now, we have nothing really planned.  I called one of our friends that we usually get together with and asked what they had on the agenda, she said they hadn’t really thought about it either.  We laughed because we’re not sure if it’s the fact that it’s just not super exciting this year, if it’s come too quickly and we’re not ready for it, or if it’s because we’ve realized it doesn’t really matter much because we’re not going to be able to watch the game anyways with a 1 year old and 10 month old running around and getting into everything.

We are now at the stage where one get-together must have several activities going on at once to keep everyone entertained.  Although it adds a new twist to activities, it’s a fun one.  I do have to admit though, I am slightly excited for the stage where we can tell them to go play outside and not be fearful that they’re going to stick a dog turd in their mouth.  Oh, the things you look forward to when you become a parent. =)

It is something to be treasured, those days when you don’t have to have one eye on the Little Dude every moment. It is hard to get used to, though, and you realize when it happens that you probably could have been doing it for weeks – its hard to catch on, sometimes.

We had the same thing happen this year… maybe it wasn’t advertised enough? We are going to a friend’s house but it seems like people are making a bigger deal out of Civil War (basketball) this Saturday than the Super Bowl. Weird.
